Research

Research in the Laboratory of Natural Products has focused on isolation, structure elucidation, and screening of biological activity of various extracts from plants, marine invertebrates, and microorganisms, with the aim of discovering bioactive natural products with promising pharmaceutical applications for drug development. The institute has established central bioassay facilities for research for evaluating the biological activities of natural products towards anticancer (cytotoxic), cancer chemopreventive, antimalarial, antimycobacterial (antitubercular), antimicrobial and antifungal, and α-glucosidase inhibitory (a potential drug for treatment of type 2 diabetes) activities.
